Brown bins welcomed

LURGAN Councillor Liam Mackle has welcomed the Council decision to extend the Brown Bin scheme to just under 3,000 new homes.

He said: “The delivery of 2,900 new brown bins to houses right across the borough is a very welcome development and testament to Council’s commitment to create a more sustainable waste management programme. The outcome of these efforts will be a better environment and reduced costs for the ratepayer as waste management becomes more efficient.”

The Sinn Féin Councillor noted that collection of the new bins would begin this week and he advised any resident who had a query about the scheme to contact the Council Environmental Services Department.

He said: “The brown bins are for organic waste and allow the householder to keep this material separate from their general waste. If anyone has any doubt about what to put in their new bin or about collection times they should contact either a local Councillor or Environmental Services. This scheme has been a great success in those areas where it already operates and we look forward to the time when it includes the entire Borough.”
