Brown bins welcomed

Nearly 3,000 new brown bins have been distributed throughout the borough thanks to an external funding boost. Collections are due to begin at the end of the month.

Mayor of Craigavon, DUP Councillor Carla Lockhart said: “I am delighted the brown bin service has been extended with approximately 2,800 brown bins being distributed to all arts and parts of the borough.

“We have seen villages such as Donaghcloney, Gibson’s Hill, parts of Dollingstown, Waringstown and many other areas benefit from this latest consignment of bins much to constituents delight.”

She added: “From my entry to council some five years ago this is an issue which has been consistently raised and I personally would like to see a roll out right across the borough and will be continuing to lobby for such.

DUP MLA Stephen Moutray added: “I too am pleased that a further consignment of bins has been distributed.

“This, however, must be replicated right across the borough and particularly in rural areas where garden waste is somewhat greater in most instances.

“We must over the coming months consult with our constituents and strive towards further extending the existing brown bin service.”

Fellow DUP councillor Mark Baxter welcomed the introduction of brown bins to the village of Donaghcloney.

He commented: “Residents felt aggrieved that most parts of the borough had this organic waste provision but felt that the village was being ignored. In light of this and other enquiries from locals it was something I lobbied hard for in the council for this last 13 months.

“Thankfully the council officers were able to source the funding required to offer this service and bring some of the rural areas into line with the majority of the borough.”
