Call for estate roadworks

MEMBERS of the Mourneview and Grey Estate Community Association along with local elected representatives Alderman Stephen Moutray and Cllr Carla Lockhart have joined forces and called on DRD Road Service to resurface the roads and footways in the Hospital Estate.

Cllr Lockhart and Alderman Moutray said; “The state of the roads and footways in the Hospital Estate and indeed the Mourneview and Grey Estate areas is absolutely appalling.

“They quite frankly are like patchwork quilts. For many years the roads in this area have been neglected and we believe it is time that Road Service work with the Neighbourhood Renewal team and the Community group to deliver a scheme of resurfacing work in this area.

“Resurfacing would reduce damage to residents cars, it would improve on health and safety concerns owing to the unevenness of the roads and would greatly improve the aesthetics of the area.

“We will be working closely with the Community group and the Neighbourhood Renewal team to lobby Road Service to deliver such in the near future.”

Speaking on behalf of the Community Group, secretary Michelle Hanlon said; “We along with elected representatives will be working to try and secure funding for road resurfacing in the Hospital Estate. As a community group it is our aim to bring about real and tangible improvements in the area and the roads network in the estate is in much need of resurfacing. We will be lobbying Road Service in this regard over the coming weeks and months.”
