An officers’ report explained Council has new additional statutory responsibilities under the NI Climate Change Act (CCA) 2022.

A potential champion was discussed at the Climate Emergency Forum (CEF) on February 10.

“The Climate Change Champion will act as an advocate for climate action within the council and wider borough,” the report added.

“The role will include acting as a link between elected members and officers on climate related matters, supporting the implementation of the Climate Change Action Strategy, attending regular meetings with the Climate Change lead officer, promoting climate awareness and engagement with local communities, and representing the council at relevant climate related events and forums.

“The role is intended to be strategic and advisory, rather than operational, and will be supported by council officers.”
