Coastline punished by high wind

The Foyle estuary was awash with white horses several metres high and the notorious sand spit in the middle of the Lough from Magilligan out past Downhill and Mussenden Temple produced some dramatic scenes.

On the far shore between Limavady and Ballycastle the beaches were pounded by huge waves and the wind whipped spray high into the air, leaving it suspended like a permanent mist.

On Saturday most people woke to find snow, and Benevenagh looked dramatic shrouded in white against the angry grey winter sky.

Further along the coast towards Ballycastle and Portrush the breakers can easily be seen (despite the distance involved), as they ravage the shoreline that has been the film location of choice for such blockbusters as Game of Thrones and Hellboy.

Sentinel reporter Olga Bradshaw recorded some footage of the coast during a break in the rain on Saturday.
