Concerns as streets left in darkness during inclement winter months

Upper Bann MLA Jonathan Buckley has raised his concerns over the extent of street lighting faults that have been reported locally that have gone unaddressed.

The Upper Bann MLA said: “I have received many complaints locally of street lighting outages, some which have been left unattended for considerable periods of time.

“On account of this, I asked the Minister of Infrastructure to detail the extent of outages in the Southern Roads Division at present and I was alarmed to hear that 1,126 outages have been reported at present.

“I appreciate that the DOI’s maintenance service aims to attend to lights within five working days, but in many cases this target has not been met.

“In respect of the winter period and inclement weather, I will be asking the Minister to ensure everything is done to ensure all reported outages are addressed both timely and effectively.”
