Eco Drive team hits Cookstown

IN a bid to raise awareness of the environmental and economic benefits of zero emission vehicles, Charles Hurst Renault and Hey! Creative Communications recently took to the roads with their Eco-Drive NI campaign, just days before electric charging points are due to go live across Northern Ireland.

In an attempt to truly demonstrate the efficient, affordable and eco-friendly nature of electric vehicles, the Eco Drive NI team drove both an electric and diesel version of the Renault Kangoo van around Northern Ireland, passing through Cookstown to compare exactly how different the driving experience would be for anyone thinking of making the move to electric.

Cookstown Mayor Sean Clarke was there to welcome the team to the town and test-drove the vehicle: “I only drove it a few yards but there definitely seemed to be a reasonable bit of power in it”.

During the two-day event, the team stopped off at towns and cities, demonstrating the innovative technology behind the new vehicle range. The entire event was streamed live via social media allowing the campaign to reach out to approximately 20,000 people in just under 48 hours.

Roisin Chambers, from Hey! Creative Communications, said: “Eco Drive NI was a fantastic opportunity for us to truly promote a more efficient, eco-friendly and affordable lifestyle for the people of Northern Ireland. Getting out on the roads allowed us to demonstrate, face to face, the benefits of making the move to electric and this was really well received by all”.

Following the excitement of last week’s event, it has been confirmed that a follow-up event will take place in Stormont in early June to generate further awareness and promote Northern Ireland as an electric vehicle destination.
