Fault causing extreme water pressure in Carrickfergus was 'rare occurrence' - NI Water

It follows reports of water supply issues in parts of the town on Monday night and Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for NI Water said: "NI Water responded to reports of high water pressure in Carrickfergus on Tuesday, May 25. Within a few hours of the first phone call, staff were on site and discovered a fault with the pressure reducing valve on the Marshallstown Road. This was swiftly brought under control and a permanent repair carried out.

“NI Water fully appreciates residents were anxious; an incident such as this one can result in extreme water pressure, but thankfully, it is a rare occurrence. NI Water would like to apologise to the residents affected and give them our reassurance that calls were acted upon promptly, resulting in a crew being on site and commencing a repair within a short period of time.

“Our aim is to ensure any property impacted by the issue will be returned to its previous condition and should customers have any concerns, please contact Waterline on 03457 440088.”

East Antrim UUP MLA, John Stewart, said he raised the issue with NI Water after being been contacted by dozens of residents in the Craigs Road, Copperwood, Tudor and Broadlands areas.

A number of households indicated that the high water pressure "led to pipes bursting" while many homes were "without any water supply at all", he added.
