Fire leads to closure of Tyrone recycling centre

Cookstown recycling centre will be closed until further notice following a fire on Saturday night.

A Mid Ulster District Council spokesperson said no one was injured in the blaze, which was isolated to a wood stock pile.

Local Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue appliances attended the scene and brought the fire under control.

Chair of the Council's Environment Committee, Councillor Wilbert Buchanan, who attended the scene, thanked the emergency services and council staff for their efforts.

The recycling centre has just recently reopened to the public after being closed to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The spokesperson added: "We will keep customers updated when we have a re-opening date and apologise for any inconvenience."
