Go walking with the Sperrintrekkers

Join Sperrintrekkers and the Mid-Ulster Walking Club for their popular annual autumn Walking Festival.

Taking place on Sunday September 30, there will be a series of fantastic guided walks organised for you to enjoy.

Sperrintrekkers have teamed up with their colleagues in Cookstown District Council to organise three walks with the proceeds being donated to the Mid-Ulster Stroke Survivors Club.

Walking itself is also one of the simplest ways to get more active and can help you to feel better about yourself as well as help with sleep, energy levels and prevent health conditions such as stroke.

By taking part in the event, not only will you be getting some exercise but you will be raising money for charity too. 

There is a choice of three walks:

Walk 1: Lough Fea Dander

Distance: 2.5 miles approx

Level: Easy

Departing between: 10am and 2.30pm Lough Fea Car Park

Suitable for: Families and casual Walkers

Time to complete: 45 minutes

Route Description: This is a flat circular route on a well-established path at Lough Fea set amongst young conifers bounding a mountain reservoir.

Cost: No need to book; just make a donation to the Mid Ulster Stroke Survivors Club on the day.

Walk 2: Mobuy Wood Walk

Distance: 5 miles approx

Suitable for: Reasonably Fit Walkers

Departing at: 12noon Lough

Fea Car Park

Level: Moderate

Time to Complete: 2-3 hrs

Route Description: Leaving Lough Fea this walk climbs to 450 metres giving extensive views of farmland, forest and mountain on a clear day. The route is along the Western boundary fence of Mobuy Wood.

Cost: £8 per person

Walk 3: The Slieve Gallion Challenge

Distance: 12.5 miles approx

Suitable for: Experienced/Very

Fit Walkers

Departing at: 10.30am Lough

Fea Car Park

Level: Challenging

Time to Complete : 4-5 hours

Route Description: Leaving Lough Fea, the route follows along the Western boundary fence of Mobuy Wood, climbing to 528 metres offering the opportunity of spectacular views of mountain and moorland landscapes.

Cost: £8 per person

General Walk Information:

Walkers do not need to book Walk 1, simply follow the way marked route around Lough Fea and make a donation to the Mid Ulster Stroke Survivors Club on the day from 10am – 2.30pm. Walks 2&3 are fully guided by the Mid-Ulster Walking Club and provided a brilliant chance to experience this scenic part of the Sperrins in a safe and fun way. Hot soup will be provided at the end of both guided Walks 2 & 3.
