Do you know a group or individual in your community making a difference to the environment? The search is on for the inaugural Calor Sustainable Community Champion 2014 with a prize fund of £8,000. The all-island initiative is searching for sustainable heroes from Carrickfergus to Coalisland, Ballycastle to Banbridge who work tirelessly to reduce their communitys impact on the environment.

Calor is looking for your help to nominate a candidate or group to find the first ever Calor Sustainable Community Champion 2014! This can be a person or group who gives their time, skills and expertise to organise anything from a local clean up or a recycling drop in their local area to increase their communities sustainability effort and reducing their impact on the environment.

The all-island initiative is searching for sustainable heroes from Co. Antrim who work tirelessly to reduce their community’s impact on the environment.

Calor believe it is time that these people were recognised and celebrated. It can be an individual – young or old - or a group who give up their time, skills and expertise to improve their local community, by increasing its sustainability effort and reducing its impact on the environment.

This could involve anything from organising a local clean up in their housing estate or town, putting in place a recycling drop to improve energy awareness or setting up a ‘bring and take’ event in their area.

The winner will receive £1,200 and a bursary of £6,000 for their chosen local charity or organisation. Two runners-up will each receive £400.

Denise Watson, Sustainable Community Champion Ambassador and local broadcaster, said: “It is a privilege to be involved in this great initiative by Calor and one which I am fully behind, as it is encouraging people from all walks of life and communities to lead the charge and put in place initiatives, measures or projects of an environmentally friendly nature.

Jennifer Fagan, Senior Marketing Executive, Calor Gas said: “Building on the success of the past two years with our search for a ‘Community Champion’, and understanding that communities across the island are committed to improving the environment in which they live, by increasing their sustainability efforts, we have decided to change things a little!

“That is why this year we have launched a search for Calor Sustainable Community Champion, we want to spread the word as far and as wide as possible, to support and encourage people to play a positive role and make their communities more sustainable. The positive impact these local sustainable heroes can bring is immeasurable.”

Nominations to crown this year’s first ever Calor Sustainable Community Champion 2014 will close on Friday 5th September.

The top 32 local Sustainable Champions, one from each county, will be put to the public vote from Monday 8th September.

The Calor Sustainable Community Champion 2014 will be announced on Friday 17th October.
