However the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), when asked if it was investigating, says motorists should take care on rural roads.

DUP MLA William Irwin said he had contacted the DfI about residents and road users’ concerns over the Drumnasoo junction off the main Loughgall/Portadown Rd.

He said there was a ‘very obvious lack of forward visibility of traffic coming from Portadown when making a right turn on to the Drumnasoo Road’.

Mr Irwin said he understood the concerns of local people as ‘there have been a number of accidents at this location’.

He called on officials look at this location and make improvements. “There are real risks at this location as the collision history would show.”

A DfI spokesperson said: “The Department has previously assessed this location at the Drumnasoo Road / Loughgall Rd junction. There has been no recorded injury collisions at this location over the last 10 years. DfI receives many requests and would like to be in a positon to implement schemes at more locations but the reality of limited funding means schemes have to be prioritised. The Department recognises that forward visibility is an issue at this location and has provided warning signs and SLOW markings on the road.

“We would ask that all road users continue to take care on rural roads as we move into the darker evenings.”
