No date for Ballymagorry waste treatment upgrade

A DELAY in beginning work to upgrade Ballymagorry Waste Treatment Works continues to frustrate members of Strabane District Council.

In response to a question from Councillor John Donnell, the Chief Environmental Health Officer advised that the final result for the appraisal study for had been delayed awaiting NI Water’s findings on the plant, which they hoped to complete in May 2012.

An upgrade for the plant was scheduled in the NIW work programme between April 2013 and March 2015. This work however had not yet been agreed and signed off by NIW’s regulator and was subject to funding being made available from the Department of Finance and Personnel through the Department of Regional Development.

Councillor Donnell voiced disappointment that funding had not yet been made available. The CEHO advised that he would continue to pursue the matter.
