Ozanam Centre gets green light

PLANNERS have given the green light for a proposed new building for Lurgan’s Ozanam Centre.

The current three storey building in William Street will be demolished and replaced by a new state of the art purpose built centre.

Approval has also been given to replace the existing child care centre, day nursery, thrift shop, class rooms and community care facilities.

Run by the Lurgan branch of the St Vincent de Paul, the charity has been planning and researching a new build for the last eight years and have spent four years trying to get a proposal passed on the current project.

The present building was originally a “technical” college, built over one hundred years ago and therefore no longer meets the demands of the existing services or provides the opportunity to develop new services.

The project aims to demolish the existing site, which provides 25,711 sq ft, to build a larger facility on the same site which will provide 27,981 sq ft of accommodation.
