Plans to removate and extend Cromore Gate Lodge in Portstewart approved
Plans to renovate Cromore Gate Lodge in Portstewart have been approved by Causeway Coast and Glens Council.
The applicant, Marco Menary, sought permission for renovation and a proposed side and rear extension to the property on the Cromore Road.
Access to the dwelling will be via the gated estate entrance off the Station Road.
A Design and Access Statement said: “The building is set within the larger Cromore Estate Historic Parks, Gardens and Demesnes and is situated within close proximity to Cromore House.

"Built c.1857 for Mr John Cromie, this single-storey, three-bay lodge with impressive gabled porte-cochère, is thought to have been built by Lanyon and Lynn in their familiar Italianate style. Now vacant and with vegetation encroaching, it is becoming dilapidated in appearance.
" Despite its decline, much of the character is preserved, making this a good surviving example of an increasingly rare building type and one which would benefit from restoration and reuse.”
