A regularly packed car park at Blackhead Path is indicative of the popularity of the walking route since it reopened.

That’s the view of the Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Andrew Wilson, who visited the Whitehead location to see for himself the fruits of a multi-million pounds restoration project.

Cllr Wilson said “From my perspective the path has already shown itself to be an overwhelming success. The car park is full and it sets up Whitehead to benefit from increased footfall and spending in the local shops, once coronavirus allows.

“Locals are walking the path in large numbers which promotes positive health and mental wellbeing. The path is a success story for the capital projects team on council.

“Only Alderman (Billy) Ashe and I remain as elected members from the legacy Carrickfergus Borough Council when we first learnt of the serious health and safety concerns on the path and I’m glad to see that the repairs have now been delivered.

“I have no doubt of the long term benefits for our residents.”

The path reopened last month after repairs covering four main areas along the coastal path from the Old Castle Road up to the lighthouse.
