The redevelopment will also include the realignment of the car park, new planting, street furniture, the installation of CCTV cameras and improvement works to footpaths.

A spokesperson for Lisburn City Council explained: “In the Spring of 2012, Lisburn City Council carried out a full appraisal of facilities at Moira Demesne.

“It also consulted with the local community and users to develop proposals for the regeneration of the Demesne.

“The council also consulted with the Built Heritage Unit of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency to ensure that any regeneration of the site would acknowledge the historical significance of the Demesne.”

She continued: “As a result the Council has now developed a masterplan for the regeneration of Moira Demesne which includes an upgraded entrance, a new grounds maintenance workshop with upgraded toilet block, restoration of heritage features, new sport facilities, landscaping and environmental improvements.

“Further development of the masterplan is subject to securing external funding. A number of potential funding avenues are being investigated by the Council for the delivery of the proposed regeneration works.

“A funding application has been developed and submitted to the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 and the Council is currently awaiting the outcome,” the spokesperson concluded.
