Roads schemes planned for year ahead

ROADS Service schemes under construction and planned for 2011/12 as part of its minor works programme and two-year priority List include a joint Minor Works/Collision Remedial Scheme to improve forward visibility and horizontal road alignment at a bend on the A50 Banbridge Road, Gilford.

A scheme at Campbell’s Hill Junction on the B10 Rathfriland Road, Banbridge aims to improve forward visibility and horizontal road alignment at a bend on the B10 plus improve sightlines and manoeuvrability at the Campbell’s Hill Road junction itself. Roads Service told councillors it was very hopeful of being on site by next month and certainly before Christmas.

Schemes planned for 2012/2013 and onwards include one at the B7 Rathfriland Road, Dromara at Bridge Road. Roads Service further reported having identified a number of schemes as part of the Bridgewater Park Developer Assisted Projects.

A feasibility study included assessing the feasibility of identified improvement schemes, identifying and assessing any additional traffic management-type measures in Banbridge Town, preparing initial design and estimates and progressing schemes to construction stages.

Meanwhile, a scheme at U4467 Tullyear Avenue, Banbridge aims to provide road widening and a pedestrian footway link along Tullyear Avenue. The scheme will also provide improved visibility and a footway at the Old Newry Road junction.

At U4472 Gospel Lane, Banbridge a scheme is aimed at providing an alternative road link between Bridge Street and Rathfriland Street.
