Roadworks set come to an end

ROADWORKS in Banbridge town centre are now complete.

The traffic signal system was upgraded in Church Square, replacing the signals at Church Street, the Dromore Road, Church Square, Castlewellan Road and Downshire Road junctions. Puffin crossings were installed at each junction.

The new energy efficient traffic signals manage the traffic using computer controlled software that changes signal timings to match the traffic conditions. This system aims to reduce congestion by keeping traffic moving where possible.

Divisional Roads Manager Kevin Monaghan said, “This significant investment in the road system in Banbridge has already had a significant positive impact on traffic movement in the Church Square area. I hope that the new scheme will be of benefit to pedestrians and motorists during the busy Christmas period and in general at peak times.”
