Silent Majority community group says there is significant local support for the proposed mine
The Silent Majority Community Group has welcomed the recommencement of the public inquiry into the proposed mine at Curraghinalt, with proceedings due to resume next Tuesday, September 1.
Chairman Gerry Kelly said the group was particularly pleased that local people who support the project would continue to have an opportunity to make their voices heard.
Mr Kelly said: “Over the course of this inquiry, we have seen local people come forward to give evidence and speak positively about the opportunities this project could bring to our community.
“There is significant local support for the project, and we are encouraged by the number of local people who have already come forward and made positive contributions to the inquiry.

“It is important that local people who support the project continue to have the opportunity to share their views and experiences. We look forward to continuing to attend the inquiry and making a positive and constructive contribution as the hearings resume.”
“The next phase will consider important issues including mine waste, landscape, water, and ecology. We welcome proper scrutiny of these matters and look forward to the evidence being fully considered.
“After such a long planning process, the community deserves certainty and a decision on the project.”
Concluding Mr Kelly said: “We remain firmly of the view that this project represents a significant opportunity for local employment, investment, and economic development.
“We look forward to continuing to make the positive case for the project ensuring that the voices of local people who support it continue to be heard.”
