This week is Recycling Week across the UK, and Vicky - public access drop-off location administrator for the Maghera, Kilrea, Bellaghy and Portglenone areas - would like to thank the community for their help in diverting waste from landfill or incineration to be recycled.

Vicky set up a public access drop-off location in the telephone box in Tamlaght O’Crilly.

The move enabled the community to collect otherwise unrecyclable waste such as home hygiene products, ring carriers, water filters, crisp packets, biscuit wrappers, confectionery wrappers, personal care waste and baby food pouches.

Vicky said: “We are so grateful for all the support we’ve received since we set up our TerraCycle drop-off location in the telephone box in Tamlaght O’Crilly, particularly over the last few months during lockdown.

“During the lockdown, many local recyclers in Mid Ulster stored at home the waste packaging they normally drop off to our location, until the restrictions were eased and they were able to travel to drop it off.

“We couldn’t have done it without you and your efforts have meant that more than 500,000 pieces of waste have been diverted from landfill and incineration, and you have helped raise more than £6,500 for Kicks Count.” There’s an opportunity for you to play a part in recycling in the Maghera area.

Said Vicky: “We are always looking for more support, so anyone interested in helping us can take their waste to the telephone box in Tamlaght O’Crilly and tell their friends and family to do the same.”
