ETI deems NWEnglish schoolsas ‘satisfactory’

The ETI carried out a two-phase inspection of Foyle International - a private language school established in 1990 and currently based in Magazine Street - in March 2014 and May 2014.

It also inspected the North West Academy (NWA) - established in 2003 and now based on the Northland Road - in December 2013 and February 2014.

Provision at both schools was deemed to have been ‘satisfactory.’

According to a newly published ETI report on the Foyle International visits: “Overall, the quality of education provided by Foyle International is satisfactory and meets the necessary standards for Tier 4 Educational Oversight inspections.

“Strengths outweigh areas for improvement in the provision. The ETI will continue to monitor the quality of the provision in Foyle International through the annual health check process.”

The report does, however, recommend that the school should “embed further the implementation of the self-evaluation and quality improvement planning processes across the organisation.”

And it says it should “better use the management information system to monitor the tracking of learner progress, and inform strategic and operational planning.”

Meanwhile, a report on the NWA visits, states: “Overall, the quality of education provided by NWA is satisfactory and meets the necessary standards for Tier 4 Educational Oversight inspections.

“Strengths outweigh areas for improvement in the provision. The Education and Training Inspectorate will continue to monitor the quality of the provision in NWA through the annual health check process.”

But once again areas for improvement were identified. Inspectors believed NWA could “develop more integrated and cohesive systems to plan and manage all aspects of the learning programmes, including more formal arrangements to record and report on the progress and achievements of the learners.”

Equally, it could “formalise and develop further the processes for self-evaluation and quality improvement planning, to support on-going improvement in the overall quality of the provision across the organisation.”
