Eugene in throttling role

A LURGAN man is hoping the next Oscar's ceremony will be one of the last he watches from his home.

For Eugene Hynes, Hollywood success is on the cards as his burgeoning acting career begins to take-off.

The 43-year-old Lurgan man, under the guidance of showbiz supremo Peter Ferris, has been treading the boards for the past 15 months.

He is set to star in a promotion feature, Delusion 2, co-produced by Ferris and Fiona Johnston.

It will star acting hopefuls from Peter Ferris's acting schools from Cardiff, Middlesborough and Belfast.

"The film is a mix between the X Files and the David Lynch films," said Eugene.

"It's about a psychiatrist and his patient and how her experiences drive him almost to the point of a nervous breakdown.

"I play a base commander who operates in the shadows, but he has a devious streak - and I end up throttling someone.

"I have been studying the scripts and trying to get into the mindset of the character."

Eugene has been shooting for the film in Belfast and it's hoped the film will preview at the Cannes Film Festival.

He went on: "It's about being in the right place and getting the break.

"I have worked and studied hard to get to where I am now and it's starting to pay off.

"I watch television and films and analyse the way the actors work and how the production has been put together.

"It is really fantastic I enjoy it and if anything comes of it then all the better."

"Peter, is a great guy. He has over 20 years' experience and is well connected.

"He is also my agent but we get on so well, we are more like friends."

Eugene has returned from Manchester having auditioned for a national advertising campaign and will be filming later in the year for the film 'Uhm' - a Bollywood meets Belfast extravaganza.

However, a dream role for Eugene would be one he is all too familiar with:"I auditioned for a role as a fireman, which would be great as I was with the fire brigade for 16 years.

"So if they ever remake London's Burning or Backdraft, I'll be straight up for that."
