European Christmas festivities from The Welcome Project

The Welcome Project had a pleasure of hosting a Christmas Party ‘Motomikolajki’ (‘Santas on Motorbikes’) on Friday December 5 in Lisnagarvey High School.

Sixteen Santas arrived on their motorbikes including a Santa from the PSNI, to give presents and bring smiles to faces of over 150 children from both BME and indigenous communities. Children and their parents were treated to a ‘Folk Dances from Around the World’ performance by children aged 4-11, which has been a one year project supported by The National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. There was also live music by the Musicland children group. This was an exciting event which offered a variety of activities for all age groups as well as promoting and enhancing inclusion and integration within Lisburn. Participants enjoyed tea and coffee along with homemade European pastries prepared by Welcome Project volunteers. There was plenty for children to enjoy, including Bouncy Castles, Reindeer Rodeo, Face Painting, Magic Show and Balloon modelling. Polish shop Polita kindly donated three hampers for the Christmas Raffle.
