European day of languages event in Wallace Park

A BRAND new European Language event for children will be held in Wallace Park in the City of Lisburn on Saturday October 6 from 2pm to 4pm.

To fully embrace the theme children are encouraged to wear fancy dress outfits and if these can embrace a European country in anyway, so much the better. Face painters will be at the park to help children complete their outfits.

Each European country represented at the event will be designated a stand in the park and children are encouraged to get involved in various activities on offer. There will be leading puppet shows and storytelling sessions in European languages, which will introduce children to words and phrases in an engaging way.

Representatives from Spain, France, Poland, Bulgaria and Italy will be in the park and will be performing traditional dances and offering free food sampling.

The Chairman of the Leisure Services Committee, Councillor Thomas Beckett, said: “We have organised this event through our Good Relations programme and in collaboration with Interlingua School of Languages.

“This is a family-geared event and we hope parents will come out and support this event and introduce their children to a little bit of European culture at the same time.

“The focus of the day is to have lots of fun and to try something new. We hope to see a great day that will finish with a parade of musicians, dancers and children around the Wallace Park grounds, with a prize for everyone who takes part. And admission is free so please come out with as many members of your family as you can muster up,” added Mr Beckett.
