The Foyle DUP MLA said that whilst a successful bid for the title of European Youth Capital will be a great opportunity for the Londonderry and Strabane area we must learn lessons from 2013.

He said: “As we have seen from our UK City of Culture year in 2013, these titles have a lasting impact with the creation of jobs, significant investment and increased tourism potential.

“We need to use the lessons we have learned as a city during 2013 to ensure we place a successful bid that is not only inclusive but one that all communities can get behind. It is important that particular effort is put into the branding, programming and nature of the events.

“If successful, the European Youth Capital will be a great opportunity to empower the youth within our city and wider area to showcase the best we have to offer and to use their talents within our communities.”
