Events lined up ahead of Orange celebrations

Ahead of this year’s Twelfth celebrations, which are being held in the village, Loughbrickland and District Rural Developement Association are holding a festival of events in the lead-up to the demonstration.

The festival begins with the fete which will be held on Saturday, July 6, at 2pm in the Orange field. Attractions will include a fun fair, a children’s pet show, a tug of war competition and the usual stalls and side shows.

Items of Ulster-Scots music and dance will be performed throughout the afternoon. In the evening there will be a Lambeg drumming competition followed by a fireworks display.

On the afternoon of Sunday, July 7, at 3pm, an open air praise service will be held in the Orange field. A new district bannerette will be unveiled.

The festival continues on Monday evening, July 8, with a treasure hunt and supper at Derrydrummuck Orange Hall, first car leaving at 7pm.

On July 9 there will be a short parade from the Sir Henry Wilson Memorial Orange hall at 7.30pm to the Orange field, where the Scarva Sham Fight Committee will stage a re-enactment and Lodge 21 will unfurl a new banner.

The festival returns to Derrydrummuck on Wednesday evening for an Ulster Scots talk.
