Events planned for Irish Street

A CULTURAL road show featuring exhibitions and lectures on the Orange Order, the Williamite trail and the First World War, will arrive at the Irish Street Community Centre this week.

The cultural festival will be hosted by the Irish Street Community Association from Thursday, January 28, until Monday, February 1.

Exhibitions include, What's it all about? whichwill also be accompanied by a lecture from David Scott on what the Orange order is all about. That will take place on January 28 at 8pm. A Williamite trail and collection of Williamite archives will also be available for perusal.

On Friday, January 29, at 8pm a 1st July exhibition will be accompanied by a lecture from local expert on the men from Londonderry who fought in WW1, Trevor Temple

Old Glory will be a lecture on the American connection to Ulster culture and will take place on Saturday, January 30 at 2pm.

A Bonfire Exhibition, accompanied by a lecture from David Scott, will conclude the road show on Monday, February 1 at 7.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to go along and enjoy light refreshments on the opening night while visiting the exhibition stands from 7pm on Thursday, January 28, 2010.

The exhibitions will be open from 2-4pm and 7-9pm daily.

Also, names are being taken at the centre now for a trip to the Boyne on Easter Tuesday, April 6. The coach will leave Irish Street at 10am .

A spokesman said: "We have booked the guided tour of the new heritage site at the Boyne for 2pm, a small deposit of 1 will secure your seat. Final Price for this trip is subject to the success of funding which has been applied for."

Furthermore, Susan McCann, who is known as Ireland's first lady of Country music, will be appearing at Irish Street Community Centre on Friday 5th March, at 9pm. Tickets are now on sale priced 13 from the Community Centre.

For the musically minded, tuition is available at the centre on Mondays, from 7pm to 9pm, for a range of instruments - piccolo, drum and flute - while Highland Dance classes are held every Thursday, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. ]
