Ewart welcomes progress on small business rate relief

THE Chairman of Lisburn City Centre Management Ald Allan Ewart has welcomed the passing of the second stage of a bill at Stormont which moves closer the introduction of the Small Business Rate Relief Scheme for this April.

Mr Ewart said: “I am delighted that we are nearing the completion of legislation to introduce the Small Rate Relief Scheme. Businesses with a rateable value between £5,000 and £10,000 will get relief on their rates of 20 per cent. In the present economic climate this will be good news for small businesses. In Northern Ireland over 8,000 businesses will benefit.

“Lisburn City Centre Management made a submission during the Consultation period and I am delighted that most of the points raised were taken into consideration. This is good news in a time of recession. It shows local democracy at work for the benefit of local people.”
