Ex-husband denies murder charge

THE ex-husband of a woman found strangled to death in her Ballyclare home has denied killing her, and been granted bail.

55-year-old Thomas Haveron, a former RUC officer with an address at Farm Lodge Grove, Greenisland apperared in cout last week charged with the murder of his ex-wife Pauline, 53.

The body of the nurse was discovered in a bath in her home at Huntingdale, Ballyclare, last month. She had been strangled and the court heard she had been put in a bath of water, apparently to make it look as if she drowned.

The High Court in Belfast heard last week that Mrs Haveron had been in a relationship with a man 25 years younger than her.

A judge was told that Pauline Haveron began seeing her son's friend after he briefly went out with her daughter.

Lawyers for ex-husband Joseph Haveron, charged with murder, claimed the "open relationship" coincided with the deterioration of their marriage.
