Ex Loyalist Combatants Programme

THE Ex Loyalist Combatants programme is a new programme that has been introduced to ex paramilitaries from the Protestant community in the Londonderry and North Antrim area, for the purpose of a peaceful re-integration back into society.

The programme provides various training schemes and also gives the programme participants confidence and other adequate skills to go through the employment process successfully.

The Ex Loyalist Combatants programme will last for a period of one year, with the hope of extending funding to provide services to the Protestant community for a longer duration, to ensure that the transition back into society will be a smooth and easy process.

The programme has engaged participants from the Londonderry and North Antrim areas to take part in training courses and programmes that better suit their needs.

To date, participants, families of participants of the programme have taken part in a first aid course, a trip to Crumlin Road jail, which also included the wider community, and a tour of North Belfast.

More training facilities, programmes, and courses will commence in September 2010.

This project is supported by Peace III (SEUPB), managed by the North West Peace 3 Cluster and delivered by St Columb’s Park House.
