Ex-soldier Jacqueline urges jubilee support for British troops

FORMER soldier Jacqueline Hodge has urged people to mark the Queen’s 60-year reign by supporting British troops. Larne woman Jacqueline, an award-winning volunteer with ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, is helping to organise a Diamond Jubilee concert at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on the evening of Friday, June 22.

“It’ll be a fantastic night of entertainment,” she said.

Hosted by UTV’s Paul Clark, the Band, Bugles, Pipes & Drums of the Royal Irish Regiment headline, with James Huish, the Bangor Ladies’ Choir and from Dublin, and the Emerald Isle Irish Dance Team.

Dame Mary Peters, Lord Lieutenant of Belfast, is to represent The Queen.

This is a new direction for Jacqueline, who was formerly appointed as personal chef to GOC Northern Ireland, General Sir Philip Trousdell. “I think once you’ve served in the Army, you realise how difficult life can be for soldiers and ex-soldiers and just how important public support actually is. I hope people will come along and show their support,” she said.

Tickets, priced £16, are available at the Waterfront box office on 02890 334455.
