EXAM RESULTS: '˜Tremendous achievement' for Laurelhill Community College students

Laurelhill Principal Mr Martin congratulates Corry Smyth who achieved two Bs and a C at A-Level.

Results exceeded the Northern Ireland average for non-Grammar schools, as a record number of students gained the top grades.

Principal, Mr James Martin was delighted at the significant achievement, he said: “These results will give students the opportunity to pursue their chosen courses at university and further education. This is a tremendous achievement for all students. An impressive 89% of A-Level students achieved 3 A-Levels, exceeding the Northern Ireland average by over 10%. 100% of students achieved two or more A-Levels.”

Many students in Year 14 attained outstanding results including, Fiona Joyce, Amy Pauley and Lauren Spencer who all achieved an A and two Bs. Fiona Joyce is hoping to study Early Childhood Studies at Stranmillis, Amy Pauley leaves with an offer to study Law and Criminology at the University of Ulster and Lauren Spencer has also been accepted to the LLB Honours in Law at the University of Ulster.

Congratulations to Laurelhill Student Lauren Spencer who achieved an A and two Bs in her A-Levels.

Congratulations must also be paid to Stephen Colvin and Corry Smyth who both achieved two Bs and a C. Stephen is hoping to attend the University of Ulster to study BSc in HR Management and Corry has been accepted at the University of Ulster to study BSc Honours in Sociology.

There was also cause for celebration amongst the College’s Year 14 BTEC students with six students achieving Distinction Stars in Performing Arts and Sport; congratulations to Sophie Farr, Danielle Heasley, Nathan Redpath, Melissa Robinson, Ben Ross and Zoe Smyth.

The College also celebrates another year of success in Child Care Education (CACHE) with eight students achieving the equivalent of three A Levels A*-C. Year 14 CACHE student Joanna Bruce celebrates her success with an offer to study Early Years and Special Needs Education at Hope University. Congratulations to Amy McClements and Chelsea Robinson who celebrate their CACHE success with fantastic employment opportunities.

This year 100% of Performing Arts, Sport and Travel and Tourism students achieved A-C, 81% of A-Level ICT students achieved A*-C, 80% of A-Level English Literature students also achieved A*-C and 70% of A-Level Business Studies students also achieved A*-C.

Laurelhill student Laura Wright who achieved an A, B and C at A-Level and has been accepted to the University of Ulster to study BSc Honours in IT.

Mr Martin acknowledged the support given by parents and the excellent teaching throughout the College, he added: “It has been a delight to see hard work and diligence being rewarded.” The College once again congratulates their students on achieving such excellent results and looks forward to continued success.”
