Excellent performances at Cullybackey

The Year 14 students are leaving the school with results that they can be proud of.

College Principal, Mr David Donaldson commented: “These results are hugely encouraging reflecting a marked upward trend in pupil performance.”

The proportion of students to achieve two or more A Levels at A* to E was 100 per cent.

This is the first time in five years that every student in the year group has attained this.

The proportion of students to achieve three or more A Levels at A* to C was 42 per cent.

Mr Donaldson added that this is a fantastic achievement and is an improvement of nine per cent on last year’s results.

Vice Principal, Mr Tim Manson, was particularly pleased with the increase in the number of A* grades.

He added: “Nine per cent of all our entries ended up with an A* grade.

“These are so difficult to achieve and yet our students gained four A*s in art, one in ICT, two in construction and three in sport.”

Over 73 per cent of all entries achieved a grade C or above which means that the students are well placed to pursue courses in FE or at University.

Mr Donaldson added: “We are delighted to celebrate these results with our students and we want to wish them all the best for the next step in their lives.

“Teachers and support staff have worked hard to ensure that the school ethos has ‘created opportunities for success’.

“We would also like to acknowledge the success of our students in accessing collaborative courses through Ballymena Learning Together – especially with the NRC and St Patrick’s College, where our students were supported to get A* grades.”

Some of the top achieving students who secured superb results included Jessica Byers, Ruth McCloy, Stephanie Lennox, Jemma Tweed, Rebekah Cubbitt, Trevor Holmes, Jordan McBurney, Christopher McKay, Fabrice Wallace and Rachel Gillespie.
