Exhibition on VCwinners to visitCarrick Museum

The exhibition of paintings was launched in Monaghan in November and has been at Ballymoney library.

It has been commissioned by the Ulster Scots Agency.

It will be on display in Carrick museum from March 1 until April 30.

Among the VC winners from Ulster were Daniel McCambridge from Carrick and James Crichton, born in the town, and won his VC while serving with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.

The Victoria Cross was instituted in 1856 and is the highest military honour in the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, local history talks at the Gobbins Centre have been proving popular in recent months and the next talk is scheduled for March 7.

Author Pauline Bingham will be the guest speaker and she will be addressing the history and memories of schools in Islandmagee.

Pauline is author of the books ‘Green Pastures: a childhood at the Gobbins in the 1900s’ and ‘An Islandmagee Schoolin’, launched last year. Her talk will be at the Gobbins Centre, at 7.30pm, on Tuesday, March 7.

Ulster Scots historian Dr. David Hume, from Ballycarry, was the guest speaker at An Creagan visitors’ centre in Cookstown where he spoke on the history of the language.
