Expect delays at Cromkill Road junction

Ballymena motorists have been warned to expect delays as major works continue on a £500,000 improvement scheme to upgrade the busy junction at Cromkill Road, Ballee Road West in Ballymena.

Drivers have been urged to allow extra time for their journeys as the works - which will involve the construction of a new roundabout -are set continue until early 2015.

The improvement works have been welcomed by North Antrim UUP MLA, Robin Swann, who said: “This scheme is warmly welcomed and I know, when completed, it will help boost the local economy by making it easier for people to ultimately reach the major shopping areas of the town.”

During a visit to the site on Thursday, Traffic Minister Minister Danny Kennedy said: “This is a significant investment in the transport infrastructure of the Ballymena and mid-Antrim area. This scheme will go a long way to improving safety and increase the capacity of the junction to deal with traffic travelling around the south west of Ballymena.”

A statement from the Department of Regional Development added: “In order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, the works will be carefully programmed. However road closures will be necessary and motorists should allow extra time for their journey if planning to use this junction.”
