Expecting the unexpected when Higgy came to town

AS sporting legend Alex Higgins was laid to rest recently, Larne snooker fans have recalled their encounters with him during his visits to the town down the years.

Hailed by many as one of game's greatest-ever players, the Belfast born snooker ace passed away in his south Belfast home at the age of 61.

A two-time world champion, Higgins once dazzled television audiences with his whirlwind potting style, which earned him the nickname Hurricane.

And Larne residents have been recalling the flamboyant star's appearances in the town in the 1980s and 90s, where he played against other greats of the game as well as some local talent.
