Expert Phillip toget reconnected

BEHAVIOUR analysis expert Phillip Oldham will make a return visit to parents’ support group ‘Connect’ when next it meets on Thursday, April 18.

Though based in Dromore, ‘Connect’, a support network for parents of children with additional education and support needs, draws in parents from as far afield as Banbridge, Donaghcloney, Moneyslane and Hillsborough.

Mr. Oldham will address next week’s meeting in Dromore Town Hall on ways to help parents manage challenging behaviour.

‘Connect’s Judith Clarke, who, along with co-founder Niamh Shiells recently picked up a Banbridge District Council Community Award, said, “Last month we had a relaxed and informal evening with lots of chat and sharing of information.

“I am very pleased Phillip Oldham, an expert in behaviour analysis, was able to juggle his commitments and will be attending our next meeting to give an informal talk on ‘Positive Approaches to Challenging Behaviour’.

“Following the success of Phillip’s last visit we were keen to have him back. Phillip has been teaching pupils with learning difficulties for over 10 years.

“Anyone with concerns about their child’s behaviour, or who would like to know more about ‘Connect’ will be made very welcome and Phillip is happy to discuss individual issues.”

Niamh, meanwhile, added, “Every parent can be challenged from time to time when trying to cope with their child’s behaviour and discipline. There are specific and different challenges for parents with children who have additional needs and it’s important that they and their children get understanding and practical help.

“The group is growing and parents will find it highly supportive and friendly and still very informal. If you have not been before then do join us.”

‘Connect’ extends an open invitation to parents to attend the Dromore Town Hall meeting, which will get underway at 8pm.
