Explore Crumlin Glen

LOCAL walkers are urged to take part in National Trails Day and enjoy a guided walk through Crumlin Glen on Sunday, October 7 between 2pm and 4 pm.

Ruth Wilson, Biodiversity Officer with Antrim Borough Council says, “You are invited to join a leisurely guided walk, just under two miles long, through Crumlin Glen to discover autumn foraging tips and enjoy the autumn colour.

“You can learn how to identify sloes and elderberries, and find out what you can make, from jams and desserts to cordials and champagne. There may even be some tasty treats in store during the event.”

Ruth continues, “Autumn is a beautiful time of the year to observe the leaves changing colour as the trees reveal their elegant silhouettes. We will look at how much food is available on the trees for wildlife over the winter months in the form of fruit, nuts and seeds. There will be an opportunity to spot river bird species, such as Heron, Dipper and Grey Wagtail and to look for tracks and trails of more elusive wildlife, such as the Otter. We will explore the Cockle House, a small gothic-arched construction set among mature beech trees and admire the impressive view of the nearby waterfall.”

“This is short guided walk is perfect for an informative and fun Sunday afternoon stroll with family and friends. I look forward to seeing you there!”
