Exploring the Legacy of Colmcille

AN informative heritage talk exploring the story and legacy of the Irish saint Colmcille will be taking place at the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre in Limavady on Tuesday, September 25 at 7.30pm.

Colmcille, or St Columba, set sail from Derry in 563 to found his monastery on the Scottish island of Iona. The talk will be led by Thomas McErlean, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Ulster and particular attention will be paid to the saint’s links with Limavady – in the 570s, it is believed that he visited the outskirts of the town for the Convention of Drum Ceat.

Following the talk, Maolcholaim Scott, Development Officer, Colmcille, will conduct a short presentation on Slí Cholmcille – a trail which links sites in Ireland and Scotland associated with the saint and his followers.
