Exploring the outdoors with YMCA

LARNE YMCA’S after-schools project enjoyed a sunny afternoon of activities designed to get the children playing outdoors, at Carnfunnock Country Park, recently.

YMCA staff Laura, Leanne and William put together a programme of tree rope courses courtesy of Climb NI.

Participants were also able to access the “Wow Balls”, crazy golf and putting with more relaxing attractions such as junk art also available.

YMCA play coordinator Laura Hunter explained: “We wanted to give parents and children the chance to play together, roam around, explore and generally have fun together outdoors. Antrim-based charity Eye Feel Good brought their climbing wall along for the more adventurous and Mark Robinson, from Climb NI, provided a challenging ropes course through the trees for those agile enough to have a go.

“The junk art activities encourages both adults and children to use their imagination to create masterpieces from junk – most of which we all have lying around the house or set aside to be discarded in our blue bins, so there is no excuse for not trying this at home. We are so lucky to have somewhere like Carnfunnock on our doorstep as it is an ideal place, especially if the weather is kind.

“The weather was indeed kind and judging by the smiley faces and exhausted bodies, the day lived up to expectations.”

Larne YMCA’s after-schools project provides daily after school activities for up to 25 children of primary school age.
