Failed to complete community service

After he was given a community service order for assaulting a police officer a 24-year-old man only completed 41 out of the 150 hours imposed.

And the probation service applied last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court to have the ordered revoked.

Stephen Martin Coleman, Armagh Road, Newry, was convicted on March 4, 2013, at Banbridge court of assaulting a police officer and made the subject of a community service order.

Probation brought the matter back to the court last week after the defendant failed to attend for unpaid work on three occasions. He had only done 41 hours out of 150. District Judge Amanda Brady said Coleman had pushed a constable in the chest and refused to provide his details.

A solicitor representing the defendant said that he was working 50 plus hours a week.

Judge Brady revoked the order and replaced it with a fine of £150 and ordered Coleman to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
