‘Fair Trade town’ proposal

A proposal to help Carrick become a ‘Fair Trade’ town has been agreed at the latest meeting of the local authority.

The policy would bring the Fair Trade ethos to the council’s procurement procedures, encourage the use of Fair Trade products amongst staff, amend the council’s nutrition policy and promote a commitment to Fair Trade through the council’s website and other media.

“If we can make it easier to get a fair deal for people in the developing world then that should be supported,” said Councillor Gavin Norris.
