Fairhill abseiling kids help raise almost £5000 for Macmillan

OVER 50 children aged from 8-14 years old, from across Northern Ireland abseiled from the top of the Fairhill Shopping Centre on Saturday, June 23 in order to raise much needed funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Participants had to raise a minimum of £50 each to take part in the abseil on Saturday. The event organised by Fairhill shopping Centre in conjunction with Macmillan Cancer Support, saw unprecedented levels of support for this year’s abseil with one child alone raising over £500 in sponsorship.

Almost £5,000 in total was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support’s Specialist Palliative Care Unit at Antrim Area Hospital.

Maria McGleenon from Macmillan cancer Support said: “This is the third year that we have had this abseil at Fairhill and I am absolutely delighted that every year we seem to get more and more children wanting to take part. We have exceeded our fundraising target that will go towards our specialist palliative care unit in Antrim. We couldn’t be happier.”

Fionnuala Mc Eldowney, Commercial & Marketing Manager at Fairhill said, “The abseil was a truly fun experience for all involved and we would sincerely like to thank all those kids out there who took such a leap of Faith and raised so much money for Macmillan Cancer Support. She added, “We had fabulous support from the kids, their parents and our traders for the event and the rain stayed away for most of the day so we are all really pleased with the entire day.”
