Fairhill Street plans withdrawn

MOYLE councillors have been told plans for a major housing scheme in the Fairhill Street area of Ballycastle have been withdrawn.

Castle Orchard Developments had been seeking permission for the demolition of 13 houses and sheds and the erection of five townhouses and 36 apartments and associated amenity space on lands including and surrounding 16-40 Fairhill Street and to the rear and north of 12 and 14 Fairhill Street, Ballycastle.

Planners were of the opinion to refuse the plans and the following reasons had been listed:

* The development would fail to provide a quality residential environment.

* Trees would be destroyed.

* The proposal fails to make a positive contribution to the townscape of Ballycastle Conservation.

* The development would, if permitted, prejudice the safety and convenience of road users since the layout incorporated part of the existing public road.

* The development would, if permitted, prejudice the safety of road users since the applicant has failed to provide details of the road longitudinal profiles, cross-sections, storm drainage design and finished levels of car parking spaces.

* The development would, if permitted, prejudice the safety of road users since the applicant has failed to provide an acceptable parking arrangement for visitors/residents parking on significant portions of the development.

* A substantial part of the development site is liable to flood and as a result, is likely to increase the risk of flooding within the general vicinity. Furthermore no Flood Risk Assessment has been provided to the Department in order to fully assess the flood risk to the development site and the impact on flooding elsewhere.
