Fallout arrives on town's cars

THERE are signs that the ash cloud has reached Lurgan.

Maurice Davison from Autoclean car wash on the Kilmore Road said: “I noticed some dust on a good few cars on Friday and Saturday.

“It was actually colouring the water coming off the cars.

“I can’t say for definite if it was from the volcano, but there was an awful lot of cars with this dust on it.”

“There’s a woman on Saturday said about having volcanic ash on her car and I laughed,” said the proprietor of William Street Car Wash.

“Then I noticed it on my car and my wife’s car and a few other cars in the street. There’s a been a dozen or so cars in today (Monday) with ash on them. It’s definitely starting to land.”

D and C Car Valeting, based in Victoria Street, said they hadn’t experienced any ash-soiled vehicles.

“Cars are dirty this weather because it’s dry and the roads are dusty, but we’ve seen no volcanic ash,” said a member of staff.

Lurgan residents also spoke of their ash discoveries.

“I’ve seen it on a lot of cars including my own,” said one Lurgan man. “You can’t see it in the sky, but you know about it when it’s on your car.”

Another man from the town commented: “Volcanic ash is unlike normal ash. If it’s not washed off your car properly it can do a lot of damage.”
