After falsely claiming she had not received her benefit cheque a
Lurgan woman received a replacement cheque which she also cashed, Craigavon
Magistrates Court
heard last Wednesday.

Thirty-one-year-old Elizabeth Henry, Monbrief Walk, Lurgan, admitted making a false
declaration to obtain benefit on April 24, 2012.

She was sentenced to two months in prison,

The court heard that the defendant had reported that she had not
received her benefit cheque and a replacement one for the amount of £127.90 was issued.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the
defendant, said that at the time she had been experiencing physical and mental health difficulties.

He added that she had been experimenting with various substances
but had now desisted from that.

Imposing the suspended sentence District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates,
said there were now four entries on her
record for dishonesty.
