Families challenged to take part in Cook Off

FAMILIES across Lisburn are being called to show off their culinary skills as the closing date approaches for the county-by-county Tesco Family Cook Off, with £1000 up for grabs for the overall winner.

The family cooking challenge, organised by Tesco and supported by well-known Belfast Chef, Niall McKenna and U105, is aimed at encouraging the public to show their love of local food.

The closing date for the competition is Sunday, July 29. Entering is simple - all you have to do is register at www.tasteni.com. State what you would cook as a main course (which mum and dad would prepare) and what the kids will prepare as a dessert (children aged 7-14). Where possible entrants should use local ingredients and the menu must stay within a £50 total budget.

This is the first major initiative under the Tesco Celebrate Taste Northern Ireland 2012 campaign which aims to encourage customers to enjoy a wide variety of local food and drink while connecting with the passion and expertise of the producers and growers behind it.

Gerarda O’Connor from Tesco said: “For us Celebrate Taste Northern Ireland 2012 is all about telling the story of relationships Tesco has with the many local food producers, large and small, whose products we stock. By encouraging families to take part in this competition we’re hoping everyone involved will learn some more about the fantastic food industry we have in Northern Ireland and that meal times will become a truly family occasion.”
