Families '˜pleased' with Council cemetery decision
A number of families held a protest outside the Cloonavin prior to the meeting, fearing that if new council rules, making cemeteries ‘lawn only’ they would have to remove surrounds and personal items from graves.
However, at the meeting of full Council at Cloonavin, members agreed the new rules, but agreed that they would only apply to new plots.

“The final decision was a sensible one.
“Graves are very personal to people - we have been fighting for this decision for the past seven months and I am so delighted that my mother can finally rest in peace.
“I would like to thank all councillors who stood with us throughout the past seven months, and I would like to express my sincere appreciation to those councillors who voted on side and voted with their hearts.”
