SDLP councillor, Malachy Quinn, praised the efforts of the fire crew which attended the scene on the Moor Road.

The councillor told the TIMES: “Once again I find myself having to condemn another car burning in the area and more anti-social behaviour. Once again another family has had their car destroyed by vandals who have no concern for anyone but themselves. This is the fourth car burning since September and it’s a worrying trend which I hope will end before someone is hurt.”

Cllr Quinn said firefighters had attended the scene quickly, adding that he will be urging police to help prevent such incidents becoming a “trend”.

“It doesn’t take much imagination to think how this could have ended up so much worse”, he continued. “I appeal to those involved in this stupid anti-social behaviour to stop before they hurt themselves or others. Just simply wise up, grow up and go get something constructive to do. The local people are sick to death of this now and they are not prepared to put up with it any longer.”
